![]() In other words, keep your cruise engines burning until you're only a few hundred meters from the dock and then request to dock immediately. This is what I did when I needed to get to Buffalo Station in Manhattan, a Rogue base, so I could buy the Dagger LF.Īnother small note: you can land on a hostile base, but ONLY if you're locked into the landing sequence before they go hostile. Eventually, as you kill more Xenos, your relations with factions that hate the Xenos will improve. Orbit the station and taunt them mercilessly, you know. Spend an hour or two just blowing up every Xeno ship in sight. The best way to do this, early in the game, is to go to Colorado and hang out around Ouray Base, a Xenos stronghold. Those two factions are allied with the Hackers and tend to hang out around Hacker bases, so if they go hostile, the Hackers will join in and you can't land. If you want to get friendly with the Lane Hackers, you will need at least neutral relations with the Rogues and the Outcasts. Transports will indeed drop their cargo (*all* of their cargo), and possibly even surrender their ships entirely, if you hit 'em just right.Ĭlick to expand.Piracy is easier in multiplayer, because you can actually threaten your target, like so: "Drop me some of your cargo or I blow you out of the sky." Sadly, there's no option to say that to computer-controlled ships. If you wanna be an actual space-pirate, though, I'd suggest tracking down a copy of X2. *After* completing the plot, though, you're free to do as you like. Otherwise, the game will continually reset everything you've tried to accomplish whenever you hit the next story mission. There's not much chance of legitimate trade with them, since you can't trade with anyone else).Īnyway, before putting *too* much effort into building or lowering various factions, I would suggest that you complete the storyline first (or download one of those "no-storyline" mods, that opens up all of the jumpgates from the get-go). ![]() The plot of Freelancer tends to manipulate your factions as the story demands - at one point, you (briefly) end up on the side of the Lane Hackers (but unfortunately, I think you're everyone *else's* enemy at that particular point in time. It just doesn't seem worth the effort, sometimes.Īs for the Lane Hackers, they're one of those factions who will attack just about anyone (you can often encounter them trying to rob other ships - they'll try to rob you, even if you're Friendly with them). But when you blow them up, you only get one, maybe two, units of cargo. When I entered the system, they were neutral. They're currently Neutral towards me, so I figured it'd work out. I also tried to become a drug smuggler by taking a load of H-fuel to the Lane Hacker base. ![]() It was easy enough to blow up the ship - but I didn't get any cargo to tractor in. I found a fat merchant ship hauling alloy, and commenced with an attack. I saved the game and went out on the prowl. I want to be a pirate, but I can't figure out how to get the cargo out of the damn ships.
